Another character I find over rated is Metaknight. Sure he's fast and annoying, but he has no kill moves. Aside from maybe his side-b, all his attacks are a set of quick, weak strikes with no knockback.
If I remember correctly, Metaknight's f-smash and d-smash are pretty good kill moves. He also tends to get kills by following people off the stage and continuously hitting them. He rarely is able to beat them in one hit.
On a side note, I think he would be a very great character to have in a team battle. Metaknight would rack up the damage, and then the other person finishes them off.

I was actually thinking of the same thing, but forgot to post it.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I'm thinking Pit is one of the best characters. He second only to maybe Peach or R.O.B. in terms of recovery (3 mid-air jumps, a glide, and a very effective up-b recovery move), he has numerous fast, multi-hit attacks as well as good kill moves, and to top it all off, he has one of the most versatile ranged attacks in the game. Once they've made the tier list, I'm sure he will be at or near the top. Though it pains me to say it, he's probably better even than Marth.
Yes, Short Hop Double Laser. It's a Falco technique in which the player repeatedly does short hops and fires the Blaster. It was better in Melee, but it's still pretty good in Brawl.
I'm with Firemaster that Pit is one of the best characters. I hate fighting against him and hearing HI-YA-YA-YAAA!!! over and over with that stupid side-B move. He has great recovery, a great projectile, great damage racking moves, good smashes and can reflect projectiles. He annoys me to no end.
I also hate fighting against Ike, especially in multi-man brawls. One on one, he's not too bad, but when you have to avoid others AND him, he will catch up to you. And then kill you in one hit. With a smash move he didn't even charge up. And he counters. Boo.
I'd say falco annoys me the most. SHDL is so frustrating!
Just use Pit and his Down-B or Side B. Or Ness/Lucas with Down B. Or either Link with a shield. Or Game & Watch's Oil Can . He will stop shooting blaster bolts at you.
Anyways, while no Official Tier List has come up yet, here's one that I really like. It's from Silverflash-X on GameFaqs, and he tries to keep it up to date through tournament results and general opinion. Here is the most recent version:

I'll try to give some explanations, but I don't have any first hand experience with these. In addition, a lot of these employ tournament tactics, so... yeah. Don't pay much attention to these in tactics in all likelihood, but pay attention in case you're interested.
Snake is rated as the best right now because he's been absolutely dominating in every tournament he's been in. His match-ups are great, and the fact that his Tournament Results blow the results of everyone else out of the water earns him his spot. Meta-Knight has an insane air game, can easily gimp and kill people by chasing them off screen, is hard to kill, and unlike Jigglypuff actually has an existant ground game. In addition, his Uair is insane. Sure, Meta-Knight probably doesn't have many killing moves if you don't chase the opponent, but you want to chase them into the air and attack them. Mr. Game and Watch has the turtle of death (Bair), a ridiculous Down Smash (Mr. Game and Watch and R.O.B. are probably tied for best Down Smash in the game), a Dair that comes out extremely quickly for some reason, Oil Panic to negate projectile spam... really, Mr. Game and Watch is ridiculous.
I really don't need to explain the rest until we get to Captain Falcon, who's at the bottom. Why Captain Falcon? For starters, his Priority SUCKS. Falcon Kick fails horribly because you can simply do a standard A punch and hit through it. You can see Falcon Punch coming from a mile away unless it's a Reverse Falcon Punch, and even then, he has to actually do damage. His tilts aren't exceptional at all, his Foward Smash is easily predictable and has too much lag, and his Up-Smash will almost never hit due to a terrible hitbox. His Knee is harder to hit in this game, and none of his arieals are exceptional, and of course, they suffer from priority.
Really, what screws Captain Falcon over in tournaments is the fact that Brawl has different physics than Melee. Captain Falcon is basically a Melee Character without the physics, which screws him over. It prevents him from doing comboes well, and priority beats whatever he does.
Still, take these with a grain of salt. There might be other tier lists you guys prefer, but this is my personal favorite. Still, a standard tier list hasn't been decided yet, so yeah. You can really succeed with any character in Brawl. I'm just happy R.O.B. is 6th on the Tier List. Besides, even if you disagree with the tier list, at least we have good discussion. _________________ This space for rent.
That looks like a great list. Good find, Bloody. I'm sad to see Jigglypuff so low (she was middle tier in Melee). The three characters in my signature are pretty near the top (Mr. Game & Watch didn't surprise me, but I was somewhat surprised to see Wario and DDD up there), so now I feel like a jerk.
Most people think Snake is indeed top of the top tier due to his insanely good tilts, grenade techniques (cooking, dropping, leaving it on the ground, etc), good dash, rocket-launching (U-Smash) dashing thing, and his ability to control the field with his grenades and mines. Approaching a good Snake player can be a scary thing.
Oh, and Mr. Game and Watch is a very good character, for the reasons you mentioned above as well as a couple more:
*His N-air is a great move. You can spam it to create a solid wall of
defense.
*More importantly, his U-air can be used on the opponent in mid-air
in order to recharge the power of his moves
I'm frustrated to see Yoshi so near the bottom. He's not an easy character to master, but I think he's vastly underrated.
I'm not surprised to see Captain Falcon near the bottom, but I just can't use Samus effectively at all. She's definitely on the bottom in my personal tier list. One of the reasons I still play Melee is to have fun with Captain Falcon. He was so much fun to play in the previous games.
It's interesting to see how the characters rank, but overall it has no effect whatsoever on what characters I decide to play.
Huh, I would expect Toon Link to be higher... though I am overjoyed that the Ice Climbers are an entire tier above Ike. _________________

I think Toon Link is where he is because his tournament results aren't exceptional. For some reason, he's not used often in tournaments, so yeah.
I can't use Samus effectively either, but I have even more trouble using Captain Falcon. At least Samus has a better grab and projectiles so I can actually do SOMETHING. With Captain Falcon, all I can do is attempt to grab and Raptor Boost people and hope they don't hit me while I'm attempting to do something. I will say, though, that doing nothing except "Show me your moves!" and Reverse Falcon Punching is a great way to taunt on Wi-Fi.
Another interesting thing to note is that Luigi is above Mario. It's probably due to the fact that Mario got the horrible FLUDD, replacing one of his best moves and making it significantly harder to use while Luigi kept his. _________________ This space for rent.
I think Luigi is above Mario because he has fantastic aerials. All of them are great. His smashes and u-tilt are great too. And then there's the fact that he's green, which as everyone knows, is superior to red. (edited for poor argument)
Luigi has that awesome Fart Powered rocket too... ...
Toon Link is still pretty high up there. This list does seem pretty accurate.
I'd think ZSS would be higher up. I'm fine with Sonic and Sheik and Ike.
I can definately see Snake being so high up there, and of course Meta knight is a top tier! He does little damage, but his attacks are fast and is so versatile, with one of the best recoveries in the game. Game+Watch is pretty good too.
