Here we can talk about anything Batman related. If you want to talk about the new movie coming out in July, just try to keep it spoiler free.
Heres the latest trailer for The Dark Knight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmQzB_AbZYQ

I don't think this is a spoiler. The Joker died (don't remember his full name)!
Can't wait for the movie!
Lord Pyre
Heath Ledger, yeah.
But this is my most anticipated movie for the year!
MadNik
By far my most anticipated. I'm hoping it will be the best movie of the year, however, imo Iron Man will be hard to top.
Lord Pyre
Haven't seen Ironman, but I didn't really care to. Looked really cheesy from the trailer.

Thats what I thought, but it was Surprisingly good. You know it has to be good if I think Batman might be in trouble.
MetaNite
Been reading around, and it's amazing! My friend loved it!
Still, it's batman with Christian Bale and the last movie with Heath Ledger. It can't be bad.
johnny139
I really don't care to see it much... never been a big fan of the bat in live action. SO much better suited to animation, as are most DC heroes. But I loved The Long Halloween, which is the first and only America graphic novel I have, and it's supposed to be a partial adaptation of it.
But I'm also a sissy, so I'll probably pass.

That's what I thought when I saw the original. What was the point of running around in a lame suit?
But in Begins, it was armor, and the cape allowed you to almost fly!

Yeah, the old movies sucked, but Batman Begins is one of my favorites!

Next time you're at my house, you should see my shrine.

...from what's I've heard, this is from (one of the many) official sites.

That cat knows whats best for Gotham
I see Dark Knight being best picture of 08.
johnny139
Huh, you know what? I was just watching Howl's Moving Castle (great movie; not Miyazaki's best, but still great), and as the credits rolled by, one name in particular stood out: Crispin Freeman as Turnip Head!
Great voice work, though. Unlike some actors, he seemed really professional... a little overdramatic at times, but all very good.
colton459
i hope it rocks i cant wait to go see it
DarkWolf
Yeah, seems like it will be pretty cool.

I'm bringing this back because this movie was AWESOME!!! I AM NOW IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE!! Heath Ledger did a WONDERFUL job as the joker. Damn pills!
Lord Pyre
This is one of my favorite movies ever.
It's up there with the Last Samurai and Serenity.
MetaNite
Last Samurai was good...
Am I the only one who thinks he likes Begins better?
Lord Pyre
I dunno. I liked DK a lot better, and Begins was another of my favorite movies...
There was just so much more to DK. It wasn't a superhero movie, it was a crime triller.

The historical innaccuracies sucked any enjoyment out of that movie for me.
I mean, I couldn't go through a scene without saying "That's not right!" or "Come on, I could have done a better job scripting that!" or "Why is Tom Cruise a Samurai?"
And yay Dark Knight. I guess. It was good. Not my favorite movie, or even my favorite super hero movie, but still very good.

The facts were almost all accurate. Just not in the same time or place...
If you just watch it as a movie, it's great. Cruise did a lot of research on samurai for this film, and it showed.
Any movie that can make me want to cry at the end has to be good.
This one made me want to, and the ending was completely expected because of the name...
But yeah, why the heck is Tom Cruise a samurai?
MadNik
So first off, this movie left me speechless when I first left, it was... well you'll find out. This movie is the only movie that has ever engaged me to the full extent. I completely forgot I was watching a movie, and I felt like I was watching Gotham. To say that it felt almost real is definately saying something. From acting, to plot line, to pacing, it all felt believable, and I cared about what happened as the story progressed. Thats saying something too, that I care what happens to everyone. I went and saw Spiderman 3's midnight show, because I love the Spiderman movies. I enjoyed it (despite most people thinking it was garbage) but I didn't exactly care about what happened to MJ or Harry, etc. I didn't exactly care that Peter broke up with MJ. I kinda hoped that Harry would live after getting hurt, but I didn't feel upset when he didn't. The Dark Knight was not like that, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, just begging for Batman to be able to make it on time to save , I was practically cheering (in my head of course, no need to ruin the film for others) for Batman to do this and that, or for Gordon to do this and that, see where I'm going? No movie I have ever watched left me reeeaally stunned after someone dies, until I saw The Dark Knight, where I felt like total s*** after certain characters were killed lol (yes, thats a good thing) So thats the first thing I loved, and I guess a good overall reason I loved the movie so much, so you can stop here if you want, everything else will be reasons why I lost myself in the movie.
The Joker: I honestly think this movie's title could be renamed Attack of the Joker, or something silly like that, and it still be perfect. Some people didn't even go to the movie to see Batman, they wanted to watch Heath Ledger as the Joker. He was PERFECT. Everytime you saw him, you knew some crazy s*** was about to go down. The Joker was able to fall into the I totally hate that guy because he's evil, but why is he my favorite character? catagory, which very few villains manage to achieve. Darth Vader has always been, in most people's opinions, the greatest overall villain ever for the same reason... well I think he's going to have to take a back seat to this guy from now on. The Joker is scary, smart, and funny, and it just goes to show that you don't have to have super strength to be someone's biggest threat. Scary: One of the biggest reasons he is so scary is that he has no backstory what-so-ever. You have know clue who he is, where he came from, or what drove him into insanity. Take Doc Ock from Spiderman 2 for example, he was cool, but not perfect. He had a backstory: his experiment failed, those arms were welded to his back, his wife died, his life was pretty much ruined. So the audience felt sorry for him, and feeling sorry for the villain usually tends to take away from the fear of him/her. Vader was also a good example, originally people were pretty afraid of him, but since we now know how... unfortunate his life was beforehand, some of us feel a bit sorry for him now. Not Joker, no back story, and in this case, great choice. Another scary part, his face. The face paint and the scars are so much better and more frighning than the bleached skin/permanant smile. And lastly, his total lack of remorse for killing innocent people. Smart: He was always two steps ahead of everyone, including Batman. He is a genious, and his plans were brilliant. His last speach he gives on the theory of chaos and how he and Batman are destined to battle for eternity was a mind trip. Funny: Unlike Vader, the Joker was hillarious, many of his lines and antics left the audience in tears from laughter. Such as his now famous magic trick. For a split second, everyone gasped, and after he shouts "Tada!", we erupted in laughter. Simple dialogue he spoke was hillarious, my personal favorite, "I want my phone call, I want it!" The guy is brilliant, and its a shame Heath won't be able to reprise the role.
The next reason was the incredible story line, with all its crazy plot twists and questions. It truely burned the viewer, but a refreshing burn... that really didn't make much sense, so let me try and rephrase it. This story line is more of a love/hate relationship. You hate how the Joker kills Batman's love interest, how he destroys everything that defines Harvey Dent and turnes him into a revenge seeking maniac, how Batman nearly breaks his no-kill rule... but you love it all. You hate Harvey Dent becoming Two-Face and kidnapping Gordon's family, but you love Two-Face. Oh, and the opening Batman scene with Scarecrow was gold. Lots of people say the movie was too long, but don't listen to them, they should have watched Space Chimps if they wanted a quick, 90 minute movie that will go in one ear and out the other.
The action was mind blowing. It had my favorite chase scene of all time, when the Joker went after Dent in his semitruck. The fight scenes were much better than the ones in Batman Begins, where you couldn't tell what the bloody hell was going on. The new suit rox my sox and also provides what I think is the best line in the entire film, "You want to be able to turn your neck?" I love that, my friends and I would always bring up how horrible it his that he could never turn his neck, and we'd poke fun of him for it, so when we heard that line and saw the new "neck turning"suit, I had to laugh. The new gadgets were a blast, even if the airplane one was close to the cheesy line. I thought I was going to cry when the Tubler was destroyed, but the Batpod... damn that was cool.
My favorite scene, if its even possible to choose... is a tie between, the interigation room or the hospitle sequence with the turning of Dent.
The only thing that I can think of that I did not like, was Batman's voice. It didn't bother me too much in Batman Begins, but its gone to a whole new level of ridiculousness. I could understand what he was saying for sure, but I think he was trying a bit too hard to disquis his voice. And why the hell did he have to use that deep Batman voice when talking to Fox? Fox knows he's Bruce Wayne, he could have used his normal voice lol Oh well I guess it goes to show that no movie can be 100% perfect, this one is just 99.99%.
Again, The Dark Knight is insanely captivating. I really did gasp when Gordon was shot, and when Batman threw the Joker off the building at the end. I honestly noticed that I had my hand covering my mouth when the Joker escaped jail and killed Rachel, during that whole period of just music and you can't hear the screams and noises. I love this film, its my favorite movie I have ever seen. 10/10, the only movie I've ever given a full ten, and I hope to give another one the same score soon.
Now... as for a sequal... Heath Ledger did a PERFECT job of becoming the Joker. He could have copied Jack Nicholson's happy-perkey Joker, but he made his own instead. That, I think is what makes him the best, however, its not that hard too copy someone else. Thats why I think for the inevitable number three, they can do the Joker again. A LOT of people are against the Joker again just because no one can beat Heath's performance. I have to be honest, it was great, but any great actor can copy him. Catch my drift? So I think they can do Joker again. If not, I'd like to see a good, new Riddler. Like how this Joker was totally different from the last one, I'd like to see an all new Riddler, as long as he's not too much like the Joker. And lastly, Two-Face, I think he's dead. I know EVERYBODY was positive that Dent would go evil at the end and be the villain for the next, and presumably last, Batman movie, but I think I chuckled a bit when I left the theater after his "death". Theres a lot of debate going on as to whether or not he's dead, many give evidence such as, his coin landed on the "you live" side when he fell off, and that Sal Maroni didn't die when he fell off (approximately the same distance), but again, I think he's dead. I wouldn't mind if he's back for number three, but... idk, we'll see.

I was wondering why you were taking so long to give your opinion on this movie, Madnik... turns out you were writing an essay! (I'll read it after I see the movie, if I ever do, so I can avoid spoilers).

I think I laughed ONCE at the Joker. When he's in the room with the mob, and someone asks, "Do you really think you can hold us hostage?" to which he responds, "Yeah." in a nonchalant way. That and when he crawled out of the truck... all the other times I was just creeped out. Which is OK - that's the direction they wanted to go. I would have gone a different way, but other than that (and his grimy clothes), he was virtually perfect.
And did anyone else find it EXTREMELY hypocritical that he goes on an on about how he never plans things and is an agent of chaos and randomness, but he has in-depth plans that always succeed due to his great planning? That was a real Fridge Moment, but it annoys me.

Actually, *puts on Batman cap*, the line is, "Do you really think you can get away with stealing our money?"
But yeah, sorry for the delay with my opinion on the movie, I actually wrote that the morning after seeing it. I saw the midnight show, first in line, wearing my Joker costume. I've never dressed up for a movie, but I knew this was going to be a hit. I loved it, my favorite movie. As Lord Pyre said, its more than a superhero film, its a crime thriller.
MetaNite
One think I didn't like about DK is that they replaced Katie Holmes with *shudders* someone else...
I felt nothing when they blew her up..
Elffy
Me either. I too laughed once at the Joker, and that was the disappearing pencil trick. You guys know what I'm talking about.
MetaNite
Oh yeah, a bunch of people in theatre laughed at that too.
