BATTLE OF THE HEROES (and villians)This can be a fun little thread for voting on our favorite heroes and villians in the realm of fiction. Each week, I'll put up two characters for you to vote on, at the end of the week, the hero or villian with the most votes moves on the the next round. This will involve characters from comics, movies, books, games, etc. This will be done in a tournement style bracket, eventually pitting the top two characters against eachother to see who is more popular among the board members. Remember, this isn't "who would win in a fight?", its "who is your favorite?"I will only put heroes up against other heroes, and villians against other villians, until the end of course, in which the top two will go against each other, as said a second ago. Each pairing will be random. I encourage ALL members of the site to vote. It doesn't take long, you don't have to support your vote in any way if you don't want to, just say which one you like better. I'll keep each pair up for little less than a week, depending on how many people are interested in this thread. This first tourney will be a 16 character bracket. 8 heroes, 8 villains. Happy voting, and may the best character win. (Give me a few moments to come up with all the contestants and then place the first two up for voting) |

Here we go, the first round: HEROES
(remember, these are drawn from a hat) 
Indiana Jones Indiana Jones, a classic... 'nuff said. Not a super hero, but can definately hold his own, even at his current age. His newest adventure begins later this month! Powers: None to our knowledge Weopons/gadgets: A pistol and his famous whip Movies: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989), and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). 
(A bit familiar, no?) VS 
Goku From the hit cartoon DBZ, Goku is a alien from space sent to earth as a child. Always defending the earth from the forces of evil, he fights... and fights... and fights... and dies just as often. Powers: Flying, super strength, not to mention he shoots energy beams from his frickin' hands! Weopons/Gadgets: His body is a weopon. Movies: Countless animated movies, Dragon Ball (2008)

I'll start things off with my vote. Always been a fan of both Indiana Jones and Dbz. Well, thats only partly true. About the time where Cell (dbz) died, I lost interest. Indana Jones however, has never gotten old. Heck, another movie comes out this month. This one is close for me believe it or not.
But in the end, I have to conclude that... almost every Dbz character is cooler than Goku. I vote Indiana Jones! lol Pyre beat me to the first vote. And thats cool (about Solo) I need to start reading those books. |

Indiana Jones all the way! He is pwnzors and 1337! He has killed lots of people and won when he was outnumbered by a ton of people... he rocks. I hate dbz anyways... besides, Indiana Jones is very popular and known by a ton of people... almost everyone, if not everyone! Even people who haven't seen Indiana Jones know the famous around 10 second boulder chase scene!

Magneto Enemy of the X-men, Magneto is always on the lookout for new recruits for "The Brotherhood". Magneto always has a plan for beating the humans and bring what he thinks is peace to the world. And sometimes even the X-men have a hard time foiling his plans. Powers: Able to manipulate and control the metal around him in any way he desires, able to fly as well. Weopons/Gadgets: A special helmet that makes him impervious to the powers of telepathic mutants. Movies: An animated film here and there, X-men (2000), X2: X-men United (2003), X-men: The Last Stand (2006)

Jadis, The White Witch The self proclaimed "Queen of Narnia" has made Narnia her own, trapping it in an endless winter. Even Aslan can't stop her, unless he has the help of the sons of Adam and daughters of Eve... Powers: The powers of Deep Magic, and eternal youth. Weopons/gadgets: A staff that turns anything its point touches to stone, she also wields swords in each hand very nicely. Movies: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005), Prince Caspian (2008)

BATMAN Bruce Wayne, a man with a past as dark as his outfit, fights the forces of evil that resides within Gotham City. With his determination, ninja skills, and billions of dollars, he always manages to beat the badguy... unless its during the day time, Batman is nocturnal. Powers: No super powers, but he is a bad-ass ninja, which should be considered a super power in itself. Weopons/Gadgets: Where does one even begin? Movies: Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and a few good animated films... no I'm not going to mention the other four live action movies, because quite frankly, most of us try to forget (apologies to anyone who enjoyed them). "Lets kick some ice" *Shudder*

Luke Skywalker A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away... a farm boy blew up a moon sized battle station with a single torpedo! Luke was trained by The great masters Ben and Yoda in the ways of the Jedi, so that he may some day bring balance to the force and defeat the Empire. Lukes hobbies include flying, talking to droids that don't speak English, going to Tochi station to pick up power converters, and of course kissing his sister. Powers: The force! And very decent skills with the sword. Weopons/Gadgets: Lightsabers, blaster, utility belt. Movies: Star Wars: ROTS (2005), Star Wars: ANH (1977), Star Wars: TESB (1980), Star Wars: ROTJ (1983) 
I vote Batman. Batman is my favorite Super Hero, and Batman Begins is my favorite movie. But I love star wars too. |

Darn it, I like 'em both.
Batman is the best superhero, but Luke is the classic SW hero... Now, Luke isn't all that great in the movies, but in the books (Especially the later ones) he's awesome. Luke with two sabers flipping through Yuuzahn Vong. Conjuring an entire fleet of Star Destroyers using just the force. Yeah, it was just an illusion, but it was awesome, nonetheless. The SW geek in me says Luke. PS, check the Wikipedia front page today. It has something related to this site.

He's not going to let anyone else have it... Powers: Invisibility if he has the ring, as well as long life. Weopons/Gadgets: The one ring, sharp teeth, and a nasty loin cloth. Movies: The Lord of the Rings- Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The two Towers (2002), The Return of the King (2003)

GANON The Great King of Evil lives up to his name as he is probably one of the most powerful and relentless of all the Nintendo baddies. Using all kinds of Dark Magic, he summons terrible creatures to capture Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule and keep Link at bay. Although he has yet to succeed in defeating Link, he'll always be back for a sequal. Powers: Dark Magic, super strength, immortal? The last one is debatable. This not-so-jolly-green-giant has a nack for breaking anything he can get his hands on, tanks; choppers; soldiers... but somehow he is considered a hero. Powers: When Bruce gets angry, he becomes The Hulk. He becomes large and gains super-super strength... thats two supers... Weopons/Gadgets: He'll tear a rotor off of a helicopter and beat your ass with it. Movies: Hulk (2003), The Incredible Hulk (2008)

HARRY POTTER "The Boy Who Lived" attends Hogwarts to become a great wizard, unfortunately, certain evil wizards and witches want him dead. Its up to Harry and his friends to uncover the truth about Hogwarts and "He Who Must Not Be Named" to save the entire world. Powers: He's a wizard of course Weopons/Gadgets: His wand, and the Marauder's map Movies: No need to list them all, I'm sure you know he's in every Harry Potter movie...

Hulk. Hero. Hulk is NEUTRAL. Hulk smash what make him mad. He has fought pretty much every (Marvel) superhero and supervillain. Iron Man even had to make a HulkBuster to fight Hulk. He also tears apart and destroys the military, ruins cities and attacks citizens... though he also fights evil and stuff... NEUTRAL! I say he's NEUTRAL! But when I saw the Hulk, I'm like "Hmm... I wonder what I will choose. Seems kinda interesting so far. Let's see who's next." Then I saw Harry Potter. And in a split second, I knew who I would vote for. Being a Harry Potter fan I am, and sometimes, strange enough, called Harry Potter, I vote for The Incredible Hulk! Heh. Didn't see that one coming, did you? The Hulk is just too cool! He's awesome! Adamantium is, under usual circumstacnes, indestructible. However, Hulk can become INFINTELY strong if you get him angry enough... with Bruce Banner, the word "indestructible" simply means "tough to break." |

DAVY JONES "Do you fear death?" Davy Jones, captain of The Flying Dutchman, was charged with the duty of ferrying those who die at sea to the other side. However, through his misuse of power, he has become a cursed being prowling the ocean for new members of his crew. Once you owe a dept to Jones... you have to pay. Powers: Immortal (unless stabbed in the heart), able to teleport and walk through walls. Weopons/Gadgets: The Flying Dutchman, a slimey sword, key to the Dead Man's Chest, and of course, the Kraken. Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), At World's End (2007)

ALIEN Also known as the Xenomorph, the alien has been the icon of Scifi-horror since the 70's. The alien is one of the more elaborate creatures of the fiction realm, consisting of many stages: Egg, Facehugger, Chestburster, and the adult (shown in the picture above). The alien is a reptilian-bug of sorts, that hunts its prey in the shadows and delivers quick kills. Powers: Strength greater than that of a human, leaping and climbing abilities. Weopons/gadgets: Its hidden, inner jaw snaps out for an instant kill, and its tail can be dangerous too at times. Movies: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien Resurrection (1997), AVP (2004), AVP-R (2007) 
Personally, this is the hardest one yet and possibly will be. I LOVE ALIENS, as well as Pirates. Davy Jones may make the better vilain imo, but I've know Alien longer... I'll go with Alien, lets see who you vote for. |
